Ricky D. Evans is originally from Cleveland OH and used to live in Memphis TN for nine years. After graduating high school, Evans attended Virginia State University located in Petersburg, VA where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management Degree. After college, Evans landed a job in Corporate America. After Evans realized Corporate America wasn’t for him and he’d much rather be grilling, Evans decided to take a non traditional route.
Backyard bbqs, family, friends, good energy and good vibes are all things that Evans enjoys. So he decided to start his own bbq business with a food truck in May 2013.
From there Ricky D‘s Rib Shack was born.
Evans started with a small menu and one that was easy to manage. The main items on the menu were ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket chopped chicken, cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans. The food truck could be found at food truck festivals or street vending on Chapel Street outside the Yale Art Gallery in downtown New Haven.
June 2016 Evans opened up his first brick and mortar restaurant. Opening a restaurant after operating a food truck allowed Evans to expand and be more accessible to his customers. Now if you want some good “ole” bbq you can come down to the Rib Shack Monday-Friday 11am-9pm and Saturday noon-10pm (closed Sunday). Evans believes that Sundays should be a day to spend with family! Evans says, “Chick-Filet is closed on Sunday and they do just fine!”
The restaurant seats 32 people comfortably and offers dine-in, take-out and delivery through Ubereats, a 3rd party delivery service.
So if you’re in the area, come down to the Rib Shack and get some delicious bbq! If you’re not in the area, make your way here for some delicious bbq! Every day’s a cookout!
